Data & methodology

Understand what’s
behind the read.

Confidence starts with knowing where information comes from, what has been calculated, and where its limits are. Here is how Tranquil turns market inputs into context.

Methodology overview · Reviewed September 9, 2026

From market inputs to market context

  1. 01

    Market inputs

Price, volume, and options data supplied by Massive.

  2. 02

    Tranquil analytics

Processing and calculations bring range, volatility, and positioning into context.

  3. 03

    Your market read

Atmosphere, Current Story, and deeper views help you inspect the evidence.

Market data is supplied by Massive. Tranquil processes live inputs and retrieves snapshots and history, then calculates and presents its own analytics. Views can follow different update paths; the whole workspace is not one synchronized market snapshot.

Source information. Tranquil interpretation.

A displayed price, a calculated measure, and an interpretation answer different questions. This guide explains what each major view represents.

Price & charts

Inputs
Provider prices, including fair market value (FMV) where available, and historical price bars.
What Tranquil adds
Developing chart bars and finalized price history.
Timing & interpretation
FMV is a provider-calculated price, not necessarily the last executed trade. A developing bar can change. Finalized minute bars use provider aggregates; history and live updates can arrive at different times.

Range & timeframe context

Inputs
Current and historical price information.
What Tranquil adds
Price location and range across the periods shown.
Timing & interpretation
Depends on the underlying price history and current observations. Different timeframes summarize different periods.

Volatility

Inputs
Options-implied volatility and underlying prices for the selected market.
What Tranquil adds
A view of volatility conditions, changes, and differences across the available options expirations.
Timing & interpretation
Updates follow the inputs and calculation cycle for that view; they need not match every price update.

Gamma & positioning

Inputs
Options snapshots, including available Greeks and open interest.
What Tranquil adds
Derived estimates of options-related market structure.
Timing & interpretation
Snapshot-based. Open interest and other inputs may describe different observation periods. Estimates are not a direct observation of dealer holdings or future orders.

Strength & Measured Alignment

Inputs
Market-strength inputs and context measures such as volatility, gamma structure, price levels, and timeframe bias.
What Tranquil adds
A summary of strength and agreement or conflict among the measures.
Timing & interpretation
Depends on the availability and timing of its component measures. Agreement does not establish a trading outcome.

Atmosphere & Current Story

Inputs
Tranquil’s available market-context measures.
What Tranquil adds
A plain-English interpretation of the market context.
Timing & interpretation
A derived interpretation, not a separate exchange feed. Read it alongside the available timestamps and underlying views.

Quality practices

Checks behind the context.

Tranquil’s automated test coverage includes specific behaviors in market-data processing. These checks test software behavior; they do not certify every incoming data point or predict trading performance.

  • Developing and finalized recordsTests cover keeping provisional price bars separate from finalized provider aggregates, and preserving provider open, high, low, close, and volume records.
  • Market-session boundariesTests cover regular and extended-session boundaries, including scheduled early closes.
  • Older information in selected viewsTests cover when cached market-structure information remains usable during a closed session and when it should be rejected as too old.

Read the time as well as the number.

Market hours, provider availability, account entitlements, and processing affect what is available. A calculation time can be later than the observation time of its inputs. A recent screen update does not mean every underlying input is equally recent.

When inputs are unavailable, a view may be unavailable or retain an older reading. Check the timestamps and status information provided by the view. Captured product examples on the marketing pages do not stream live updates.

A direct path to report an issue.

If a reading looks unexpected, send the symbol, view name, date, time and timezone, and what you expected to see. A screenshot can help. Use in-app support chat or email; please leave account credentials and private trading details out of your report.
